TWAS-TÜBİTAK PhD & Post Doc Fellowship Program’s aim is empowering scholars, fostering research excellence, and global collaboration.

Fellowship Program

The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Türkiye (TÜBİTAK) and TWAS jointly offer fellowship programs for scholars from developing countries in the South interested in pursuing advanced research. These programs cater to both postgraduate and postdoctorate candidates, each with specific eligibility criteria and program details.

Details for the Postdoctoral Fellowship Program

Duration

  • Postdoctoral fellowships are tenable for a minimum of 6 months to a maximum of 36 months.

Fields of Study

  •  Postdoctoral research opportunities are available in the following fields: a. Agricultural Sciences b. Structural, Cell & Molecular Biology c. Biological Systems & Organisms d. Medical & Health Sciences (including Neurosciences) e. Chemical Sciences f. Engineering Sciences g. Astronomy, Space & Earth Science h. Mathematical Sciences i. Physics j. Computing and Information Technology.

Language of Instruction

  • English.

Eligibility Criteria for Postdoctoral Fellowship Program

To qualify for the Postdoctoral Fellowship Program, candidates must:

  • Hold a Ph.D. degree in a related field.
  • Be nationals and residents of eligible developing countries.
  • Encourage underrepresented groups, including women.
  • Not hold a visa for Turkey or any developed country.
  • Have employment and a research assignment in a developing country.
  • Be under 45 years old.
  • Secure an Acceptance Letter from a Turkish host institution.
  • Provide a research proposal and demonstrate English proficiency.
  • Commit to no concurrent assignments.
  • Be financially responsible for family members.
  • Have no previous fellowship awards.
  • Return to their home country after the fellowship.

Benefits of the Postdoctoral Fellowship Program

  • TWAS provides travel support to and from Turkey, including visa expenses.
  • TÜBİTAK offers a monthly allowance to cover accommodation and living expenses.
  • Private health insurance premiums in Turkey are covered.
  • Study fees, including tuition and research costs, should be waived or covered by the host institutions.

Details for the Postgraduate Fellowship Program

Duration

  • The fellowship for postgraduate research is tenable for a minimum of 6 months to a maximum of 12 months.

  • Engage in advanced Ph.D. research or qualifying exam preparation.

  • Provide a research proposal and demonstrate English proficiency.
  • Commit to no concurrent assignments.
  • Be financially responsible for family members.
  • Have no previous fellowship awards.

Fellowship Program

Required Documents

  • Official Acceptance Letter from an eligible Turkish department, institution, or laboratory.
  • Language proficiency evidence in English.
  • Proof of eligibility, including residency, nationality, and employment.
  • Research proposal form (provided in TÜBİTAK’s specified format).

Deadline

This fellowship call will begin on September 15, 2023.
The deadline for this fellowship invitation is December 25, 2023.

Application Process:

  • Applications must be submitted online via the TÜBİTAK online application system (TYBS).
  • Applicants must create a profile on the TÜBİTAK Researcher Information System (ARBİS) before accessing the application form.
  • The application period is open from September 15, 2023, to December 25, 2023.
  • Applications submitted through means other than the TYBS platform will not be accepted.
  • No applications will be accepted after the deadline
