Introduction to the Quean Elizabeth Commonwealth Scholarship

The Queen Elizabeth Commonwealth Scholarships (QECS)  offer a unique opportunity to study a two-year Master’s degree in a low or middle income Commonwealth country.

Aimed at students who are committed to creating change in their communities, the scholarships are a life-changing opportunity to experience a new country and culture, to broaden horizons, and to build a global network that will last a lifetime.

Through cultural exchange and academic collaboration, Queen Elizabeth Commonwealth Scholars help bring about positive change and find solutions to the shared challenges we face – both in their home countries and those that host them. As an active part of the Commonwealth network, scholars will help shape its future.

Before submitting an application please review the current available courses, destinations and entry requirements for each university listed below.  We strongly advise applicants to read all of the application guidance and FAQs carefully before starting an application.

2. South Africa

a. Stellenbosch University

University entry requirements

Candidates eligible to apply for a Master’s degree in the Department of Process Engineering include graduates with a four-year undergraduate degree leading to a professional qualification such as BEng and BSc Eng, or graduates with a BSc Honours degree in one of the following fields: computer science, mathematics, applied mathematics, chemistry, biological sciences or physics.

Applicants are required to submit a university application at the same time as their scholarship application. 

Please note that applicants to South Africa will need to complete a SAQA equivalence to be considered for a scholarship as this is required by the South African institutions.

b. Tshwane University of Technology

University entry requirements

Please ensure that the Masters that you select is a maximum of two years in length and that the course title included in your QECS application matches the course title on the university’s website.

Applicants are required to submit a university application at the same time as their scholarship application. 

Please note that applicants to South Africa will need to complete a SAQA equivalence to be considered for a scholarship as this is required by the South African institutions.

c. University of Pretoria

University entry requirements

Please ensure that the Masters that you select is a maximum of two years in length and that the course title included in your QECS application matches the course title on the university’s website.

Applicants are required to submit a university application at the same time as their scholarship application. 

Applicants should select yes for ‘Have you already applied to the University or had any contact with staff there regarding this course of study?’ and include the student number provided by the university in the ‘please provide further details’ section below it.

Please note that applicants to South Africa will need to complete a SAQA equivalence to be considered for a scholarship as this is required by the South African institutions.
