Fully funded APU MEXT University Recommendation Scholarship in Japan: 2024-25

The MEXT University Recommendation Scholarship aims to support international students, embrace diversity, and boost global relations.

The MEXT University Recommendation Scholarships 2024–2025 are fully funded scholarships for international students. Both master’s and PhD degrees are eligible for these scholarships. The MEXT University Recommendation Scholarship will pay the whole cost of tuition as well as 144,000 JPY per month for living expenses and round-trip plane travel in economy.

APU recommends outstanding international students for this scholarship. The MEXT University Recommendation Scholarship is offered by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT), which seeks to promote active international student interaction in Japanese universities and increase Japan’s competitiveness internationally.

Benefits of MEXT University Recommendation Scholarship

Benefits of the MEXT Scholarship University Recommendation for the Applicant include:

• The full cost of tuition is covered by the APU Tuition Reduction Scholarship.
• 144,000 JPY (number is subject to change) for living expenses each month
• Economy-class flights will be available between the home country and APU at the start and end of the program.

Eligibility Criteria for MEXT University Recommendation Scholarship

The applicant must fulfill each of the conditions listed below in order to be eligible for the MEXT University Recommendation Scholarship

• Japanese or English are required languages.
• All nations in the world are eligible.
• A foreign student who plans to study in Japan
• A citizen of a nation that has diplomatic relations with Japan but not have Japanese nationality
• An individual born on or after April 2, 1988
• Have a minimum grade point average (GPA) from their most recent university of 2.30 on a scale of 3.00.
• The MEXT University Recommendation Scholarship is ineligible for applicants who are already on active duty or civilian employees of the military.
• Recipients must be able to travel to Japan during the APU-specified arrival period.

Requirements

• If you are in the military or work for the military when you apply, you can’t get the MEXT University Recommendation Scholarship.
• You need to be able to come to Japan during the time APU says you should.
• If you want the MEXT University Recommendation Scholarship and got one from MEXT before, you can still get it if you have 3 or more years of research experience after the last MEXT scholarship payment.
• You can’t apply for another MEXT scholarship if you are applying for this one
• While you are studying at APU, you can’t get another scholarship from a different organization.
• You have to be a “student” in Japan to get the MEXT University Recommendation Scholarship.
• For the English Proficiency Test Score, only scores from exams taken on or after March 22, 2022, will be accepted.

The deadline for application submission for MEXT University Recommendation Scholarship is November 15, 2023 (for September 2024 Enrollment)

Selection Process

• APU examines application materials and chooses outstanding applicants for recommendation to MEXT.
• With their final APU application results, applicants who have been nominated for this scholarship will be informed.
• Selected candidates complete and deliver extra MEXT (SGU) application documents to APU.
• MEXT makes final scholarship award decisions.
